LLuxury Accommodations in the U.S. & Canadian Rockies

Nestled in a high mountain valley above the North Fork of the Shoshone River, Breteche Creek Ranch offers a hands-on vacation experience shaped by a spectacular natural setting. The sage-covered hills, Aspen groves, and Lodgepole pine forests on the edge of the Shoshone National Forest offer endless opportunities to view wildlife. Elk, deer, moose, bear, coyotes, fox, hawk and eagles reside and migrate through the ranch's 9,000 acres located 35 miles east of Yellowstone National Park - the center of the largest wilderness ecosystem in the lower 48 states.

Breteche offers wildlife, fly fishing, canoeing, horseback riding, climbing, breathtaking scenery, a nature trail, and tent-cabins near Yellowstone.

Accommodations are simple, comfortable and rustic. Guests stay in tent-cabins (wooden walls and floors, canvas roofs that allow the sounds of birds and nearby Breteche Creek to filter in).

Nine tent-cabins are scattered among the aspens along Breteche Creek, accommodating between 2-4 guests per tent-cabin. Cozy sleeping bags lined with thick flannel sheets create comfy beds on pine bunks. A centrally located lodge constructed of native lodgepole logs provides an open kitchen and dining area, washrooms with hot showers, and shady porches.

Gourmet Western" is how we refer to the scrumptious fare served at the ranch - and there is lots of it!

Breakfasts start your day off right with hot-out-of-the-oven scones, muffins and cinnamon rolls, egg frittatas, country sausage, fresh fruit, endless coffee, juice and teas. Lunch can range from homemade pizzas, hearty soups, thick grilled sandwiches to hamburgers grilled over a campfire. Dinners are never to be missed! Fresh seafood, pastas, steaks, crusty breads, salads and decadent desserts. Alcohol is allowed - BYOB.

A canvas roof on sturdy wood walls with a wood floor is a tent cabin. There are 9 cabins nestled along Breteche Creek in the Aspens and Pine.

Families, couples and individuals are welcome at Breteche Creek for seven-day sessions throughout the summer season. Whether guests are riding, hiking or fishing, their activity can be enhanced with an educational workshop or expert instruction. Geology becomes relevant and understandable when taught from a ridgetop overlooking a valley with both volcanic and glacial formations; astronomy comes alive in an open meadow under the night sky.

Challenges abound for the adventurous, including a rock climbing wall. Evenings are for star gazing, lounging around the campfire, singing and story telling.
The ranch facilities and activities have expanded! For the summer of 2001, Breteche Creek has added 7 canoes for use in the whitewater of the Shoshone River or for paddling around Stonebridge Lake; a 22-foot climbing wall with gear for all ages; and a spacious new dining area has been added to the main lodge.

Breteche Creek is an educational foundation dedicated to using the natural wilderness environment as a stimulus for accelerated learning about the world around us and as a setting for more meaningful interactions and self discovery.

The year 2001 will be Breteche Creek Ranch's ninth year in business. A session at Breteche Creek is different from a week at a traditional dude ranch.

Although guests do ride frequently, their rides may include a geology lesson or a question and answer session with a naturalist. Hikes may involve birding with an ornithologist. The week's activities are based on guest interests allowing a unique and personalized vacation.

We offer special programs and workshops such as :

Riders and hikers spontaneously learn about the birds they see in flight and the plants they step over; natural cycles become easier to understand while enjoying the outdoors.
