When the boat pulls away from the dock, you embark on a journey that places you in the heart of nature! Experience the mountains from a different perspective… from the river.

Along the way, you will hear tales of the rough and tumble explorers and settlers that first came to the Columbia Valley. You will see first hand impressive geological formations that hint at the mighty forces that sculpted our mountains. And you will hopefully catch a glimpse of some of the magnificent wildlife that frequent the shores of the Columbia.

There’s no better way to view wildlife than from the water!

The Columbia Valley, and the Rocky Mountain Trench that it sits in, is one of the most significant migratory corridors in North America for hundreds of species of animals, birds, and fish.

Animals that can be spotted include moose, deer, elk, black bears, otters, beavers, coyotes, and the (very elusive) cougar. In the skies it is common to see Bald Eagles, Ospreys, King Fishers, Red Tailed Hawks and Great Blue Herons hunting for fish.

The year 2003 was designated as the United Nations International Year of Fresh Water. The aim was to enhance public understanding and appreciation of the significance of our fresh water resources and how it has shaped our world.

It was with this initiative in mind that Larry Sparks, General Manager, came up with the vision of what is now Canyonjet Safaris. An avid kayaker and river guide of ten years, Larry wanted to find a way to share his passion for our rivers and mountain environment with guests visiting our beautiful region.

The section of the Columbia River that Canyonjet explores represents only 1% of the Columbia River’s entire length – and it remains the last free-flowing stretch unaffected by damn control.

This impressive stretch of the river winds it’s way through narrow canyons, open deltas, and offers some of the most unparalleled views of the Rocky Mountain and Columbia Mountain ranges. Our custom built jet boats allow us to travel down river – and back again – to wilderness areas that are otherwise inaccessible. Guests come away from their exhilarating adventure with a new-found appreciation and fascination for our mountain rivers and the intricate region it travels through. And that, in a nutshell, is why we are here
